No, it's not Mitt Romney.
His name is Brad Hill. He has served in the MA house since 1998. Last year he voted for the constitutional amendment which bans equal marriage rights. Now he says he will vote against the amendment. He is the first legislator to revoke his support for the amendment.
At first I thought he was just BSing long enough to support the 2008 amendment that will ban marriage AND civil unions (the 2006 amendment mandates civil unions), but if that were the case I think he would've said so. He seems to be saying he objects to any constitutional amendment on this matter.
This seems like a pretty Republican area of the state. Do you think he will lose his primary? What are his positions on other issues? Does this news surprise any of you who live in Massachusetts? I wonder if he's moving to the middle because Mitt Romney is becoming so unpopular.
I think my favorite part of the article is when they talk to the Republican who owns a hardware store with his husband. So many gay male Republicans who live with their partners, but so few who would ever get that piece of paper.
This is good news but the vote is coming sometime within the next few months, and GLAD and Massequality still seem to think this will pass. So please support them if you can.
