Michigan seems a curious anomaly amidst our celebration of House pickups in the Northeast and Midwest. Unlike as in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, or Wisconsin, we haven't scored any House pickups there and the Michigan GOP delegration is still a whopping nine representatives.
This is not at all to fault any Michigan Democrats, who have done a fine job ensuring reelection for Debbie Stabenow and Jennifer Granholm. I'm wondering if the Blue tide that washed over the Midwest can flow further into Michigan during the next cycle.
Are there any conspicuous missed opportunities from this year? Any Michigan Republicans who are politically dead but just don't know it yet? The GOP is going to come gunning hard for our freshmen in 2008, and it would be nice to be able to open another front in the Midwest.
So, any contributions by folks more knowledgeable about Michigan than I would be most welcome! Thanks in advance.
