A meta tale of Kossack convergence and Graceful Espionage
On Saturday morning I was reading nyceve's healthcare diary , the subject was scam insurance policies
nyceve's diary:

This will scare you, it's why Democrats must investigate the insurance industry
The story really synchronized with a situation I had at work on Friday.
My Comment:
* Corporate benefits too (11+ / 0-)
this just happened at my job ( national retail chain). They just launched "health benefits for P/T employees" contracted to Aetna. Many have tried to join only to fall in a catch 22 of our H/R saying they have to contact Aetna, and Aetna saying they can't join w/o a "packet" from H/R. After many calls and requests for 4 weeks
Aetna agreed to 2nd day a packet to one of our new emp. The packet arrived 5 days later. The "good" plan was $100.00 a month for $15,000 capped in hospital indemnity basically, not healthcare at all.
this emp. was so upset she had to leave early yesterday. She felt betrayed that she was drug through a bait and switch scheme, I fear we are going to lose her by weeks end..This has been a problem through our whole district so I assume its much bigger

Immediately after I posted my comment I saw
AnotherMassachusettsLiberal `s comment (see below) and checked out the link to the article . It turns out Strategic Recources Co. was the Aetna subsidiary we were dealing with. (She never actually received the "packette", but finally spoke to a human who described the product... barely)

Aetna Health Insurance Lawsuithttp://wcbs880.com/...
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- A consumer advocacy group filed a lawsuit Wednesday against health insurer Aetna Inc., one of its subsidiaries and the state Department of Insurance, hoping to stop the sale of new health insurance plans it claims are a scam.
Phil Wheeler, president of Citizens for Economic Opportunity, said the state is allowing Aetna to sell plans to employers that are designed to mislead workers into believing they have adequate coverage when they may receive only $1,000 in annual maximum benefits.
Wheeler said $1,000 of coverage can be used up in a matter of hours for a typical emergency room visit.
``These plans are designed not to be there when you need them,'' Wheeler said at a news conference. ``It's like having an empty fire extinguisher on the wall.''
When big companies like Aetna feel free to rip off consumers, there's real trouble in the industry. It's time to nationalize the healthcare insurance business...

however, there are no active policies with the $1,000 limit. The most commonly purchased plan is a $10,000-limit policy. Any way, I printed the article and brought it to her, spoke to my mngr and advised her of this Lawsuit and also a scuffle about this in the Connecticut Gov's race. And suggested that this may explain the reluctance of Aetna/ SRC to reveal what the "plan" actually provides.

[Connecticut Democratic gubernatorial candidate John DeStefano has questioned Gov. M. Jodi Rell's involvement in the state's approval of a health insurance program that's become the subject of a lawsuit. Some state insurance officials had raised concerns about the plans, which in some cases provide only $1,000 in coverage.]
She then spoke to her mngr and we, through Graceful Espionage were able to secure the regular f/t health policy for her.
Thank You Kossacks For providing awareness to prompt my action, even if it's one American at a time
ps... please pardon my lack of [block quoting]& linking skills, and any other skills you may find lacking. This diary thing is really hard ! I just wanted to share the good news.
