As one of the currently recommended diaries is discussing right now, Glenn Beck did a whopper of an interview with a newly elected Democratic member of Congress last night.
I just had to let CNN know what a public service they are doing by having Glenn on the air. If you go here you, too, can sound off. Remember to check whether your comment is positive or negative. I, of course, chose positive.
Read my email after the flip...
I saw a clip on the Internets today of Glenn Beck's interview with Keith Ellison last night and I just wanted to congratulate Mr. Beck on doing such a great job of being a truly skeptical and unbiased journalist.
His well-framed question--with all of the appropriate caveats to reinforce that he wasn't insulting any Muslims and was just reflecting what I'm sure tens of bigots across the country are also thinking about Mr. Ellison's election--about how this new member of Congress can "prove" that he is not aiding and abetting the enemy was refreshing indeed.
Along those lines, I have some other questions that Mr. Beck might want to ask some other prominent religious or political figures, should he ever manage to have them as a guest on his show.
For example, if Mr. Beck ever gets to interview James Dobson, the head of Focus on the Family, he might want to ask Mr. Dobson if he can prove he doesn't believe abortion clinics should be bombed and OB/GYNs who prescribe Plan B should be shot and killed?
Or, if Glenn has on Sen. Trent Lott, who has now been voted back into a Republican Senate leadership position, it might be wise to ask him if he hates all "N-words" and can prove he doesn't think slavery should be reinstated and that all people with even slightly dark skin (wouldn't want to leave out any Hispanics -- they're all just illegals, anyway, right?) should be rounded up and sent to slave camps where all whites can come to inspect them and get the picks of the litter.
Finally, if he should be so lucky as to land an interview with our esteemed vice president, a one Mr. Dick Cheney, he could ask him if he can prove that he is not going to declare all of the Americans who voted for Democratic candidates during the recent election to be "enemy combatants" and incarcerate them in secret prisons in former Soviet bloc countries. [In case you hadn't heard, before the Nov. 7 elections, President Bush and VP Cheney made lots of speeches at campaign rallies where they said that if Democrats were to take back the House and Senate, it would mean that the "terrorists win and America loses." Legitimate arguments, wouldn't you say?]
These are all reasonable questions that I'm sure Mr. Beck will consider. Thanks for keeping him on the air. His program is fantastic and just the tonic our country needs for these journalistically challenged times we've been suffering from for the past decade or so.
NOTE: This isn't the exact email I sent. I thought of the Lott question after the fact and sent that as an addendum. The original email to CNN had a question Glenn might want to ask Ehud Olmert, but I liked this Lott question much better. Much more in keeping with the spirit of Glenn's question to Keith Ellison.
