I just saw
this in WaPo lumped together with all the other stories on Google News about the abducted contracters, but this seems to be a distinct event:
ZUBAYR, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraqi police said they killed an American in civilian clothes and wounded another on Friday after the men shot dead two police officers just outside the southern town of Zubayr.
A police officer in Zubayr, an enclave of the Sunni Arab minority in predominantly Shi'ite south Iraq, told Reuters customs police stopped a U.S.-made four-wheel drive vehicle in the late morning on suspicion it had entered Iraq illegally.
The occupants turned out to be Americans and opened fire, killing two policemen, he said. The body and the wounded man were now under British military custody in Zubayr hospital.
Is this an example of "succeeding unless we quit?"
In how many more ways can Iraq be FUBAR before King George realizes that we are falling down deeper and deeper into a hole of lost lives and treasure and reputation.
I won't speculate on what happened, other than to say that there appears to be no certainty on who or what will happen when you get to a checkpoint in Iraq. Civilian Americans shooting at Iraqi police, and police shooting at Americans?
WTF?
