First and foremost, this site belongs to Kos. Let's all acknowledge that, and let's be grateful for the tremendous impact that is has had (at least, IMHO) over the last few years, and especially during the '06 season.
Looking forward to 2008, I was contemplating all of those things that made Kos great, as well as some ways I would like to see the site organized. And let's be honest....organization is going to be the keystone of success in 2008.
One of the key things I noticed as we fought through this past cycle was that diaries came and went....inevitably, they ALL came and went, though some lingered on the Rec list for a while longer. And thanks, of course, to those frontpage search and rescue folks who brought some back from the dead.
I think that organizing races by state makes sense. I think that being able to click on a specific state from the frontpage and see all relevant diaries would be immensely helpful, especially to those visitors who are more transitory than the regular dkos addict junkies who bought Windows Smartphones and invested in EDGE data plans to make sure they've caught the latest piece by DarkSyde or Bill in Portland Maine. After all, what fun is it posting comment number 1,638?
Seriously, if we can organize the next election's diaries by state, district, etc., we'll be in a position to help out better in the races that affect us personally. Local union wants to have some folks help out with GOTV? Makes it hard when it falls off the diary list so quickly, and most folks (besides the aforementioned addicts) don't spend much time with the search function.
Sorry for the short nature of the diary, and granted, this would require lots of additional work. This is just an off-the-top-of-my-head idea, and I wanted to throw it open to discussion. Obviously, we have to start making the changes we want to see - putting the appropriate pieces in place - today (or maybe Monday....let's enjoy the weekend!).
