Lou Dobbs seems to have no problem with self esteem. I marvelled at his column today on CNN. http://www.cnn.com/... . See this sample:
The free-trade orthodoxy, made up not only of Republicans but still a sizeable number of Democrats, appears to be spouting ever-louder lies and disturbing distortions of truth and reality as their desperation over the ascension of the "Lou Dobbs Democrats" on November 7 is becoming more shrill, verging on outright panic
I was unaware of the existence of this creature until Mr. Dobbs was so kind as to bring them to my attention.
I see that he puts the title "Lou Dobbs Democrats" in quotes, but I don't know who he is referencing. Free trade and immigration are issues that divide the Democratic and Republican parties, and I don't see the elections as having changed that. And if he thinks that free trade issues were what propelled the Democratic party to victory this year, I think Mr. Dobbs' analyzer is broken. Iraq, corruption and the exposure of government incompetence in the wake of Katrina all scored much higher in terms of influencing people's voting. In the one congressional seat in which immigration was the closest to being THE key concern, in Arizona, the Dobbs-style anti-immigrant candidate 1) was a Republican and 2) lost.
Certainly the pressure on the middle class from increasing prices of housing, transportation and other necessities is an issue that Democrats have to address. Other issues go with that, from the Medicare pharmacy plan-sham to education costs. Still--"LOU DOBBS DEMOCRATS?" Please, give me a break!
It's not that I see any serious threat that this egomaniac is going to take over the Democratic party. But I do resent his implication that he was somehow responsible for what happened on Election Day.
