Just a quick note to let you'll know we are out there and quite blue!!
I know a lot of folks think the whole region is beyond hope. Not so to those who live in the areas growing and growing bluer.
As a white, male Liberal Southerner, let me tell you this: When I lived in the Big Apple some decades ago I was shocked at the level of racism I found. Maybe some of the shock was because we in the South been slammed so hard over the years for the conditions here that we naturally assumed that other regions were damn near perfect.
It ain't so.
In the North I discovered that ethnic diversity brought great flavor and variety to day-to-day life. That part was wonderful. I met and became fast friends with many I would never have encountered in the South.
I also found that such diversity gave more people more other people to hate, talk trash about, avoid and generally blame for the problems in the City and the World.
A Little Taste of Life the average Southerner gets when away from home that none of you will ever get:
Once people hear that Beautiful Accent, they feel entitled to assume it safe to whisper their bigotry to you because you're from Dixie so you must agree that "Those People......."
And these closet racists are everywhere, of every stripe.
So please, cut us the same slack you cut the peeps in Orange County, Montana, Missouri or anywhere we Democrats struggle. Lets face it, Damato and Pataki and Arnold did win their elections. Just sayin'...
And personally, I ain't that crazy 'bout Utah.
Update: At no point did I mean to suggest that some in the South don't deserve scorn. I deal it to them myself. Often.
But all of are not to be lumped together and ignored.
