Americans aren't used to thinking about the sources of our energy. We go from one well heated or cooled building to another, usually via a well heated or cooled personal vehicle. We light the darkness around us and we keep our lawns green. Electricity is available at our wall plugs, for the most part, without fail. We trust we will have clean, drinkable water flowing from our taps. Yes, things happen for us, but we seldom think about the energy we use to make those things happen.
But now we're reaching a point where knowledge and attitudes are changing. America's energy policies and our energy-use can follow our old and present course, or we, as a country, can choose another course. We are realizing the energy we use does have a cost. Our society is beginning to know the true cost of our energy use, both in dollars and in costs even more dear to us. We Americans are a fair and compassionate people who know how important it is to maintain our nation's security and prosperity. But continuing down our present path we are finding only decreased security and reduced prosperity.

We know we have a responsibility to pass both our civilization and our planet on to the next generation. Americans have always known freedom and opportunity, we know these important values must also be passed to future generations. We all know America runs on oil, gas, and coal, pumped and mined from the earth. And we know there is a limited amount available to us. When it begins to run out, American freedom and opportunity will begin to run out. It is up to us to keep America going, to make sure we have a sustainable energy plan.
We all have confidence in technology, our Yankee ingenuity, our southern pride, our knack of coming up with a solution to a problem. Well, this energy situation could be one of our biggest problems yet. American citizens can see the problem pretty clearly, but it seems our current leaders refuse to look at it. We are a prosperous country, we have the means to develop other energy sources. Our country has some small research and development projects going right now, but there is nothing being built into an industrial sized system. The only technology that our present leaders want to work with is old technology, oil products. We need to move up to the next level.
There are very good reasons to move up to the next level of technology. Besides the oil price increases that are sure to come as it gets harder to find and other countries use more of it, we've got to consider the availability of oil. America should not be dependent on other countries for its energy needs. Especially when there is no need to be. Taking this next step up will provide many jobs. A national New Technology energy program would require scientists, engineers, technicians, machinists, assemblers, packers, shippers, field workers, supervisors, executives, new company owners, and many others.
We all want a prosperous, free, and secure America, these New Technology energy systems have the potential to provide us with that. We would all enjoy a national mood of accomplishment again; a solid goal to strive for. Our American dream... kept alive. We just need to step up from old, oil-burning technology.
You have probably heard of most of these New Technologies, they've been talked about for a while. Developing them into industrial sized solutions is what puts the "new' into the New Technology plan. This is something the old technology people haven't let anybody think about.
Almost anything in nature that naturally moves or produces heat can be used for energy. What requires our thinking, and will provide jobs for America, is building those sources into something we can use.
Making an ambitious plan happen is always hard work, but when the chips are down, Americans have never stepped away from hard work. In fact, when America is in trouble, Americans rise to the challenge and do whatever is needed.
Well, America is getting into trouble now, and New Technology energy sources is the only sure way out. Taking the step up to New Technologies is the only responsible thing to do. We will have opportunities, prosperity, security, freedom, and the true sense that we're doing the right thing; both for us today and for our grandchildren.
