Nobody believes Bush/Condi/Snow any more.
Most believe that politions add a partisan spin to their statements.
The media are failing as watchdogs
Yet the America people need the facts on Iraq, reliably delivered.
So I propose a Webb-Warner “Unofficial Office of Iraq Facts”
(yeah, I'd love a better name too, thanks)
Acting in concert, they take on the role of public communicators, sidelining the Executive branch, who are on probation till they stop lying for at least 14 consecutive days. They don’t have to agree on everything, just communicate together.
Webb-Warner will keep us updated with the state of affairs both in Iraq, in the policy debate and in congressional oversight. As Virginia senators they have an excuse to caucus together and hold joint press conferences. The both have military links, would be hard to swiftboat, and represent both the new majority and the GOP old guard.
I’m ready so some straight talk – and I don’t want it from McCain, Baker or God forbid Lieberman, any of whom the punditry might elevate to shadow spokesperson.
What do you think? Who would you have? let me know.
