I know this is kinda funny coming from the guy that just told you earlier in the day that the Gannon story was dying, but do it anyway.
MSNBC has a poll
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6862172/
asking what we want to hear more of and less of. My advice - rate up Howard Dean and Jeff Gannon, kill reality TV, Schiavo (though that is an interesting debate), and bomb-making teacher.
below the jump I've got more on the intent of my earlier diary
I know Armando seemed particulary offended that I challenged those of you hung up on the Gannon story. That's ok Armando, you are probably right - I should've reworked the diary. I had to get to class, so I just didn't have time.
Anyway, many of you thought my point was just to negatively kick some dirt, rain on your parade and navel gaze...
Nothing is less true. The point I was making, and made pretty well, I thought, is that the MSM is not going to break this story. It's not going to get any traction in the papers or on the networks. Shit, Plame is still pretty much a non-story, WMD lies got nada compared to Clinton's zipper lies and even torture doesn't break through the corporate MSM's filter.
I provided a link (http://rigorousintuition.blogspot.com/2005/02/stirring-white-house-honey-pot.html) to a story about Craig Spence - a child-prostitution ringleader that also happened to be the most powerful republican lobbyist in the Reagan/Bush era. That story, as you'll see if you click through, disappeared from the MSM within days. From front page to no page. In days.
So the point of my diary, which I put up in response to the Milbank diary, is that we shouldn't be relying on the MSM to do this work for us. If we want to be informed, we have to continue doing what susan and georgia are doing. But even more importantly, we need to start turning the tv off, putting the newsweeklies down, canceling our newspaper subscriptions and talking to each other. We need to spend more time in the back yard talking over the fence to our neighbor. We have to rely on ourselves.
The Milbanks of the world will always be milquetoasts compared to the georgias, the susans - and, if we do it right, the rest of us...
finally - apologies to all that took offense to the earlier diary. I do hope, however, that you click through the link. just make sure you have a defribullator nearby...
