The most important thing any of us who read or comment can do at this point is volunteer to help out tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday.
I have taken off a week from work to volunteer and I have spent the past day struggling to get volunteers. Some people only want to hold signs - even though we're desparate to fill our phone lines. Others say that they hate going door-to-door, so they decline. Therefore I make this plea:
Take a day off on Tuesday and go and volunteer. Go to your local headquarters and tell them you will do whatever they need you to do. Even if you hate making phone calls, make phone calls. Even if you hate canvassing, canvass. Even if the people you reach are exasperated, continue on. It may sometimes seem that you are not making any headway, but you are. If you can't take a full day, take two hours to make phone calls. Volunteer to drive voters to the polls after work.
We should not have one phone line unused from now to the election! We cannot leave any door or house without literature!
This is important - the election is not over yet and we can't rest until the last polls close.
I know that many people who post here regularly volunteer, but this is directed to the rest of you - including some members of my own family who make the excuse that they gave money so they don't need to volunteer because it won't make a difference. Donations are great, but at this point bodies are urgent.
