Here it is already Wednesday, so it's time for another edition of The Tuesday Diversion. This week's topic introduces
Bookcrossing. Bookcrossing was inspired by the
WheresGeorge website. Using WheresGeorge, you register the serial numbers of bills of various denominations of U.S. currency, write the WheresGeorge website address on those bills, and spend the money. If someone comes across that bill they can log where they found it, and you can track the journey of currency around the country. It's pretty interesting in a specifically nerdy way.
Bookcrossing takes it a step further. You register a book and release it "into the wild." Someone finds it, and with any luck they'll read it, log where they found it on the Bookcrossing website, and rerelease it into the wild. You can open user accounts and read and write book reviews and all sorts of things. It's more interesting in a less nerdy way.
Well, that got me thinking. What do people do with the books they read? So, take the poll and write some comments, sure, but also check out Bookcrossing (and WheresGeorge too).
