Just when you thought it would be safe to walk the neighborhoods for GOTV, it appears that VP Dick Cheney will not let election day totals tip the power in Washington toward Democrats.
Cheney has vowed to protect his power base, and he's chosen South Dakota as a place to make his final stand.
Details after the jump...
I suppose it was inevitable that Cheney would choose South Dakota as the frontline of attack. With outside groups like NARAL attempting to rally SDaks to block the abortion ban, Cheney understands that this is an assault on Conservative, and by extension, American values.
This from Fox News:
Vice President Dick Cheney will spend Election Day Tuesday on his first hunting trip since he accidentally shot a companion last February while aiming at a covey of quail on a private Texas ranch.
It is unknown how attorney and former hunting partner Harry Whittington would vote on the South Dakota ban if he were a resident, but the White House had made it clear that Whittington will not accompany Cheney on this particular trip.
He will be accompanied by his daughter, Mary, and his political director, Mel Raines, who will help him keep track of the election returns, McBride said.
God help Mary and Mel if the returns don't favor continued dominance by the GOP.
Cheney, always protective of his privacy, has left his itenerary for this trip purposefully vague:
The vice president, after working at the White House on Monday morning, will head to South Dakota to spend several days at a private hunting lodge near Pierre.
Suffice it to say, this is not the first time Cheney has taken the fight to the enemy on Election Day:
Lea Anne McBride, his press secretary, said it was an annual hunting outing and said Cheney spent Election Day in 2002 at the same lodge.
And we all now how that turned out, don't we?
Tomorrow's a big day, and there is a lot at stake. But please be careful, South Dakotans. Some people will stop at nothing to suppress the vote.
