The most effective reminder that there was an election coming were direct mailings that the National Republican Congressional Committee sent me warning about Democrat
Melissa Bean. These flyers arrived
every day for over two weeks. Yup, the Republicans certainly aren't short on money. I threw out the first three or four, but once I noticed their ridiculous fecundity, I started saving them.
Some of them practically smell like the fear of fat, sweaty Republicans. I'm surprised that, in their desperation, they didn't just call her a lesbian or something like that. It would be unethical, but so are these ads, and these just don't seem capable of working on someone that's not already a vote-Republican-until-they-kill-us-all voter. They all make sure to frame her as "Liberal Melissa Bean" and then try to connect her (not very logically) to something people fear like terrorists or immigrants.
Also, they never mention their own candidate. It would just weaken their case, I guess.
Oh, no! Don't tell people thousands of soldiers have died as a result of the Republicans' selfish, shittly-planned war! That's not the kind of fact that should have any bearing on
which way you should vote. Anyone showing concern over their deaths is using them as a "tool."
Sure. If you don't vote to prevent doctors and medical institutions from being held accountable for ruining someone's life through malpractice (obviously the sole reason people can't afford healthcare), it means you HATE
SICK CHILDREN.
She's a dirty hippie! They should have just dropped the text and shipped the flyer with just the bad Photoshopping.
