Well, I've been trying to think of a diary to patch together to cover my various post-election reactions but couldn't think of a cohesive subject. Hence the title, haha. Phonebanking in CT, my first political cash donations, and why my boy might finally be announcing his 08 plans soon.
First, the story you might not know about (not really a story yet I suppose) unless you follow
Wesley Clark's PAC page. He made his post-election post, mostly noting that Democrats cannot just sit in their victory, they have to act with their new powers. However, there was an interesting closing note for Clarkies like me. In heavily bolded and red letters:
Last night the American people spoke, loud and clear. Now we have our marching orders. It's time to change course.
It's time to lead.
I understand he was, at least at face value, saying Democrats as a whole must now lead. But let me just say it's quite exciting to see Wesley Clark talking about leading.
Second, I spent the weekend leading up to the election doing GOTV phonebanking for the Connecticut Citizens Action Group. The fun bit of that? They also did a huge amount of phonebanking trying to nudge undecideds towards Joe Courtney. I alone made just over 750 calls in my time there. And CNN has Courtney up by 170 votes. The CT Secretary has the margin at 167, and says an auto-recount has been triggered.
My first political donations this year were $20 a pop to Tester, Webb, and Patrick Murphy respectively. Webb and Tester have won, and Murphy got the call sometime yesterday.
I realize I didn't do this by any means, necessary, but it's nice to be a part of a community that has gotten me to lend some measure of aid (in the end) to these 4 great cand- winners.
