Ok, here's my plan:
We send Reid and Jeffords to speak to Specter, Chaffee, Collins, Snowe, Hagel, and McCain and get them to become independents and caucus with the Democrats.
Tell them that the Republican Party is now controlled by the extreme right wing. As bait we would probably have to tell Specter he can be Chair of the Judiciary Comm, Hagel stay on as head of the Foreign Affairs Comm., Susan Collins as head of the Governmental Affairs Comm. etc. Maybe other moderate Republicans might follow suit in the House and Senate.
I mean hey, I don't like most of these people...But if they're gonna be in Congress anyway for the forseeable future, might as well be on our side, right? It could be like the alliance between New Labour and the Liberal Democrats in England. They have their differences, but together they can easily seize power away from the Conservative Party.
Ironically the one Republican on that list of six I don't like the most is McCain. Tell him that Teddy Roosevelt, his idol, left the GOP too. He ran against Wilson and Taft, his former running mate, as an Independent in 1912 or something like that.
Yeah, I know it'll never work. But what the fuck else do we have to loose?
