From Kristen MCQueary's column in the Daily Southtown:
When members of Congress take their seats, they'll adhere to a new committee structure with a shuffled deck. Democrats will chair committees and subcommittees, and low-ranking GOP members are likely to forfeit plum assignments.
(snip)
...Republican Jerry Weller (R-Morris) won't know their committee placements until January, after the Democrats complete their reorganization. Weller expects to remain on the House Ways and Means Committee but could lose his post on International Relations, although he hopes to keep it, his aides said.
This gave me an idea for all of us in Illinois (and for anyone who cares about human rights):
Let's start a call or write in action to Nancy Pelosi, and/or what ever other democratics are involved in the selection of congresspeople for the committees. Let them know we think Weller, because of his conflict of interest by being married to a member of the Guatemalan government, should not be left on the International Relations Committee - Western Hemisphere.
I think given Weller's conflict of interest, and complete, arrogant disregard of the Mayan people of Guatemala by his actions when he married and since then, he should not be left on his seat on the International Relations Committee.
Let Nancy Pelosi, Illinois democratic congresspersons and any other democrats in positions to make a difference and perhaps both our senators(?) know how you feel about Jerry Weller remaining on the International Relations Committee.
