The elections of 2006, is being heralded across the world as a great Democratic victory. Hundreds of thousands of Democrats large and small have worn themselves out patting themselves on the back. Shucks even pseudo democrats are doing it too.
We Won! Screams Dem leaders, the people have spoken.... Maybe, but I am finding as I talk to people around the country and in other countries, that perhaps it is an illusion.
I know you are saying, Ron you are nuts, we won didn’t we?
Yes, we won to a degree, but I have a feeling that the Republicans loss was more a matter of we the people being fed up with lies, invasion of privacy, corruption and scandals, than it was Democrats winning.
If you look at the numbers across the board, it's difficult to see any real gains made by Democrats among religiously observant voters. We did gain in demographics like Hispanics and those without a high school diploma. We proved we didn’t need the religious right to win elections, or did we?
There just isn’t enough difference between them and We! Progressives are attempting to make the various campaigns for the future, campaigns of issues not ideologies. Progressive Democrats are renowned for checking the rise of corporate power and abuses and expanding democratic rights domestically.
We gained ground in this election at the expense and aid of the Republicans.
Ours is an attitude towards the world of politics that is far less black-and-white than conservatism or liberalism, breaking free from the false and divisive dichotomy of liberal vs. conservative that has dominated American politics for too long.
Progressive Democrats must come together, and make a conscious decision to cooperate with one another regardless of their cultural differences and political ideologies. It is time to think about the American citizens and families who a crying for affordable health care, crying for Electoral Reform, and crying for those young men and women who are dying needlessly in Iraq. My youngest son is there in Iraq, and I don’t want him coming home crippled or in a body bag!
We must think long term, and plan for another hard fought battle in 2008, the republicans with two years of planning will no doubt spring a few surprises on us, will have restocked their bag of dirty tricks.
Remember the saying "success has a thousand parents, failure is an orphan", or something along those lines.
Plan now, join WeDemocrats.org, help build a solid long term solution to the division of the Progressive Democrats, help create a Party that is of the people, and you to can be a parent in 2008...
