I was just on CNN and looked at their top stories list. CNN top 10 stories
Is it just me or were the choices a little fluffy? Yes, the Tainted Spinach was important but was it the top 10? Or even the Top 20? Or the Trans-Atlantic Terror Plot earth shaking? Come on, for crying out loud, bottles of water are a threat? Who has been convicted and has the bomb actually been proven to be lethal? How about the 7 guys in Florida(or was it 6) who wanted to blow up the Sears Tower AFTER they got their uniforms and boots? These are not really top stories are they?
More on the flip...
My question is...what about the other stories?
Global Warming? Arctic Ice loss? Penguins starving because a huge iceberg separates them from their feeding grounds? Polar Bears drowning. Zoo bears in Moscow not being able to hibernate. D.C. weather more like North Carolina. My Irises coming up or my Magnolia bush getting ready to bloom.
Shouldn't a top story have been An Inconvenient Truth? Or at least one related to it?
If Katrina was a story last year, what about one of the typhoons that hit South East Asia and Chinaon July 18 and August 6, 2006? I understand they were devastating...more than 450,000 people suffered although the death tolls weren't as high as Katrina's...but they received very little press here.
Al-Zarqawi was important but it really didn't change anything...so why is he in the top 10 or 20?
And why aren't more people voting for the Irael-Lebanon War?
If the Enron Trial is so important, where is Abramoff?
If the Mega-Church Scandal is in the top 20, why isn't the Foley-Page scandal?
Or how about the Pope's Gaffe about Muslims?
What about Wiretapping?
Sure, the Croc Hunter's death was a tragedy, but so are the deaths of Iraqi children or the poor children in India who are in the news today.
Does it deserve to be in the top 10 or 20?
President Ford's death is news, but the death of the former Russian Spy through plutonium poisoning is much more threatening. Actually, James Brown's death was personally more devastating than Ford's. And are all our Presidents going to receive funeral ceremonies now? Where was Truman's or Johnson's? Or do only Republican Presidents under George II get royal treatment? Come on....
