I don't want to pretend that I'm a victim or deserving of any special attention. Far from it. There are definitely people in this world that need more assistance and respect than I do, and this is critical. However, something strange happened yesterday to me on this site that got me thinking.
I was posting in the thread about marijuana legalization, essentially stating that all drugs should be decriminalized and efforts dedicated instead to major traffickers. Fairly progressive, I'd say - maybe not the absolute most, but way better than current mainstream opinion. I basically figure, why should be punish the victims of HARD drugs?
After saying this, I was insulted by one poster who told me they weren't victims and hadn't I ever been drunk. Now they did misinterpret my comments as about weed not hard drugs, and I accept that. However, I had to explain that no I do not drink, smoke or use any drugs. Not a religious choice, but a personal choice about what I PERSONALLY believe about the relationship between those things and MY body. Whose business is it judge me on this?
If that wasn't bad enough, another poster came on after the previous one apologized, and attacked me for my sexual practices, saying I was "saving it for marriage, too". Which I didn't address with word one in any posts. Notwithstanding that my opinions are the opposite on sex, but what gives that person the right on this forum to randomly attack my sexual views (which they completely misconstrued from no evidence)? Shouldn't every person who posts here be respected for their personal choices, as long as no direct harm is afflicted to another. I know that is how I feel.
Am I right here, or way off base?
