If we aren't ashamed of ourselves now, we have no conscience. If we aren't frightened more of our own government than terrorists, we have no brain. If we don't start to demand accountability, we have no hope!
I consider hypocrisy to be the most despicable of all human conditions. I take the Constitution and it's principles very seriously and for anyone, for any reason to turn their backs on everything our country stands for just disgusts me. And, it frightens me to think that well-intentioned friends whose opinions for the most part I once respected, admired, and counted on for support, now blindly, insanely, unreasonably believe anything our current president (our national disgrace) tells us!
This past 5 years has been nothing but a series of one outright lie after another. The unmitigated gall of this administration is surpassed only by the downright stupidity of its supporters. It is disingenuous after all to categorically claim Christianity as your mantra, while strenuously endorsing someone you KNOW in your heart of hearts is a bald faced liar! It is after all, a sin to bear false witness, even when it is against someone as morally reprehensible as Saddam Hussein!
Being immoral to combat immorality is called circular reasoning for those not familiar with principles of debate or philosophical precepts! Likewise, resorting to barbarism (i.e. torture) to combat barbarism results in what: a barbaric national consciousness and character! Claiming that we are a nation of laws, not men, while condoning the renditioning of individuals (enemy combatants) for interrogation in other countries is against every legal principle we supposedly espouse as a nation. How can anyone vest so much power in one human being and then attempt to assert they are not about the business of undoing our system of checks and balances?
If, as the Bible teaches, evil begets evil, and good begets good, and that we will reap what we sow, where do you think our foreign policy will lead us, and where does it stand in the "blessed are the peacemaker" eyes of God?
An honest assessment of your Christian belief and commitment is required at this point. Many who lack true understanding of the divinity within themselves will continue to blindly tolerate and support the actions of this government. Others; more mature, honest, less self-serving, and submitting their will to the will of the divinity within will emphatically reject the blasphemy of our national leadership! Which camp are you in?
How can the right wing claim to be so patriotic as evidenced by all the American Flag pins on their lapels and yellow ribbons on their bumpers, while also approving of the dismantling, or at least the weakening, of our own Constitution? Just give it a little critical thought for Heavens sake.
Why do you believe the Attorney General was prevented from being sworn in at the Senate hearings last week? Didn't that seem a little odd to you? Here is a simple thought. Had Mr. Gonzalez been sworn, any "I don't know", or "I don't recall", or "I can't comment" response would have been obstruction of justice and perjury had he been sworn. With no affirmation or oath there is no accountability for the Attorney Generals cover-up of the facts, even to the Congress!
Now, just how threatening is that prospect to our system of checks and balances, and by extension, our civil liberties? Who then, will be held accountable when it is discovered that the entire issue was nothing more than a political tool used against those who oppose the insanity currently taking place within our own executive branch, and is nothing more than a power grab?
We are on the verge of an utterly devastating war. It can't be stated any clearer than that. Our idyllic foolishness and personal negligence in holding our leadership to account is about to be shoved up the posteriors of the guilty and innocent alike. It is bend-over time for Americans, and Islam is now (thanks to a failed foreign policy and an unlawful pre-emptive war against Iraq) an eternal, mortal foe! We will be in Iran before you know it, and when that happens, all hell will break loose in the whole middle-east, and we will be forced (repeat for emphasis) FORCED to reinstate the military draft.
This will be a cruel, but poetic justice of sorts. All those uberpatriotic rightwing fundamentalists will no longer have an out and will be dragged into combat screaming and whining like the cowards they are. Maybe, perhaps, do ya suppose that even THEY will realize the folly of our ways when it is THEY who are getting shot at, dismembered, killed, and maimed. Certainly! More importantly however, perhaps it will shock the majority of people complicit in this national tragedy into a reawakening of reason.
Further, do you suppose that when our national debt threatens to bankrupt us (as the Soviets were bankrupted when they were foolish enough to get tangled up in Afghanistan), we will resort to additional tax-cuts for the rich and slip silently into the history books as yet another failed system? Certainly, this spend mentality all in government seem to have can't continue forever without damning repercussions, perhaps another depression is right around the corner thanks to failures at both the executive and legislative level when it comes to fiscal responsibility.
It is absolutely deplorable that those who insisted on voting for personal fiscal responsibility by passing the Bankruptcy bill last year seem totally unwilling to reign in spending by the federal government. This is the absolute height of hypocrisy. They should be ashamed of themselves.
A final note, what terrifies me most, is that this sociopath we elected has his finger on the nuclear button. And, this should frighten everyone, because there is no doubt to anyone with one iota of sense, that he would use it. In fact, I think, believe, and assert with everything that I am that he would LOVE to use it! Here is a man that can't even pronounce Nuclear, and yet he has the power to blow us all to kingdom come. Now, that is frightening!
