So, as Peggy Noonan
tells us, it's time for BushCo to start finding a replacement for our snarling Vice President. I'm not entirely convinced (because I think the administration would be entirely rudderless without Cheney), but let's assume it's true and that within the next few months the old bastard will step aside to spend more time with family or for health reasons or because his contract with Satan has come due and he has to report for duty in hell.
I'm guessing they (BushCo) would take this opportunity to name an heir apparent (that's assuming Dubya actually intends to step down and not declare himself Imperator), but who knows, maybe Rove will view this as an opportunity to buy some credibility by installing someone without aspirations.
Regardless, the question is who will it be? What do we think around here? It'll be a weak primary field for the R's if a legitimate candidate replaces Cheney, which could be good or bad for our team, but leave that aside for now. I think their best chance for '08 is McCain, and I think IF Cheney walks McCain will take his chair -- and it would be nearly impossible for the Senate not to accept his choice.
So, take the poll and pick your favorite Cheney replacement:
