As the strange connections between Bush administration and Dubai keep comming to light, things keep getting more interesing. I have seen some recent diaries mention Clinton not taking out Bin Laden with missles because it would have hit members of the UAE's royal family as well. What I haven't seen is this blast from the past that I had forgotten about.
Nov. 2, 2001, 12:00 PST -- On Oct. 31 the French daily Le Figaro dropped a bombshell. While in a Dubai hospital receiving treatment for a chronic kidney infection last July, Osama bin Laden met with a top CIA official -- presumably the chief of station. The meeting, held in bin Laden's private suite, took place at the American hospital in Dubai at a time when he was a wanted fugitive for the bombings of two U.S. embassies and last year's attack on the USS Cole. Bin Laden was eligible for execution according to a 2000 intelligence finding issued by President Bill Clinton before leaving office in January. Yet on July 14, 2001 he was allowed to leave Dubai on a private jet, and there were no Navy fighters waiting to force him down.
Oh,it get worse.

Le Figaro article has since expired. However, parts of it has been archived here:

"Throughout his stay in the hospital, Osama Bin Laden received visits from many family members [There goes the story that he's a black sheep! --MCR] and Saudi Arabian Emirate personalities of status. During this time the local representative of the CIA was seen by many people taking the elevator and going to bin Laden's room.
"Several days later the CIA officer bragged to his friends about having visited the Saudi millionaire. From authoritative sources, this CIA agent visited CIA headquarters on July 15, the day after bin Laden's departure for Quetta.
This is one of the questionable relations between Al Quaeda and the UAE pointed out in "Oh Lucy! You Gotta Lotta 'Splainin To Do". The comprehensive 9/11 timeline put together by Michael Ruppert three years ago. While some are hesitant to look at the implications that members of the Bush administration either played a part in the attacks or let it happern on purpose, you'll be pleased to know in advance that this timeline here does not go into any speculation about explosives in the towers or missels hitting the Pentagon. Ruppert, a former cop, avoids that type of talk like the plague. He approaches it like a cop investigating a crime in order to get a warrant from a judge, and thus only cites evidence that can be proven. In this case that would be previously printed stories. ALL come from credible news agencys, and ALL are footnoted.
By all means, feal free to avoid the 9/11 implications. You'll still learn alot from this well reserched timeline. It has more than a few mentions of ties between the UAE and terrorists worth looking at. Like this one...
15. Jan. 30, 2001 - Sept. 11 hijacker Ziad Jarrah was questioned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A number of UAE, Middle Eastern, European, and U.S. sources were cited in this CNN report, which said the CIA requested Jarrah be interrogated because he had been in Afghanistan and was suspected to have ties to terrorists. An unnamed CIA spokesman said the other sources' claims that the agency knew anything about Jarrah before Sept. 11 were "flatly untrue." Jarrah's Jan. 30 detainment at the airport in Dubai, UAE came six months after he took flying lessons in the U.S. Jarrah was released because "U.S. officials were satisfied," said the report. With all the new info comming along now, like James Baker's involvement and what not, the connections keep growing. But ignore that if you need too. There's no question that this port deal is dangerous to our nation. Really, why the hell are ANY of our ports foreign owned? How can we let anyone else do the task of inspecting cargo comming into our country. There is something seriously wrong with this picture. I wouldn't abdicate that responsibility to a close ally, much less a hostile nation. Exactly what is Bush's major malfunction on this one?
