As regular readers of my diaries may know, I come out of an extreme right-wing fundamentalist background. I am agnostic now, as I have a visceral negative reaction to pretty much anything religious. But lately I've been wondering if I'm a little misguided, if an evil intelligence does exist, and if it's directing the GOP. Rove, in particular. More below...
I know this will rile up some of the atheists amongst you, but hear me out first. I have good reasons for feeling this way.
What strikes me about this whole GOP thing that's coming to a head right now is, it's planned way too longterm, it's too well executed, and too many disparate things are coming together for one person or even a group of people to get this this right.
The groundwork for this has been laid for literally decades, starting with mass media and television. That was the start of dumbing down the population. then public schools followed, churning out hundreds of thousands of high school graduates that can hardly string together two coherent sentences, much less think for themselves. This is extraordinary long term thinking, bringing together several different disciplines that are not obviously related.
Then you bring into the mix some terrible public policy, partly as a way of destroying the schools, and partly as a way of making people dependent on corporations and the government. Many things are accomplished by this, and none of them are beneficial to the populace as a whole - but it took years and years to lay this groundwork. Forty years ago, Bush could not have pulled off what he's pulling today. Forty years ago, I doubt he would even have gotten elected. Nixon did try, and got sacked for his efforts. Someone just shot off early on that one, it seems.
Then, you use the bad public policy and enrichment of the corporations, along with human greed, to stack the news media with pro-corporation, and thus, pro-neocon, lackeys who don't think for themselves and are willing to accept whatever the government says at face value. Then, you install a government that will destroy the country.
Now, you have an uneducated and apathetic populace, a sycophantic media, a completely evil government, and voila, you get instability and war.
If I were Satan, that is exactly what I would do.
I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but this is a perfect storm, and I'm having a hard time coming up with any other explanation that accounts for the extreme long term thinking that this entails.
I'm not a Christian - I'm not suggesting that we have to "go to the lord" to save our country. I'm not even religious at all, in fact, this "theory" doesn't come easy to me. But I am suggesting that maybe there's something controlling things behind the scenes. There are just too many powerful people thinking way too far ahead when they obviously don't contain the mental faculties for such long-term thinking.
Am I full of it?
