The purpose of this diary is not to provide "Re-Re-...-Re-Breaking News" on enraged Muslims protesting around the world at the blasphemous depiction of Muhammad in European newspapers. Nor is it primarily intended be an occation for us to ponder where exactly the
limits of free speech should be (though to me, "limits of free speech" does sound a little like "icy hot", "terrible good guys": would anyone say the "limitations of a free horse?" -probably not- "limitations of a confined horse" better).
I would like to create this diary mainly (but not necessarily exclusively) to hear your opinions on...
Do you think that a large part of the enragement at the content of the newspaper(s) rests in what much of the Muslim world primarily (perhaps) perceives as being a "newspaper": an extention of the arm of a government and not (more or less) independant bodies? Presumably, that would mean the contents of the cartoon carry more weight because the perception is that the cartoons were premeditated actions by the individual governments.
