Say what you will about John Kerry - but the man keeps fighting.
Few remember that late fall 2003, he was dead-on-arrival in Iowa - but he put his head down and took it one step at a time.. And won.
Many more know that this is the week for the Alito showdown. This is the time to stand up and be counted. And despite taking flak from left, right and center last week, John Kerry is keeping up the call for a filibuster again this week. He has just posted what is obviously a personal
and passionate post on Huffington Post.
And to his critics from last week? A few thoughts. Why is it better for a leader to go to rural Texas and chop down trees on his weekends off than go to a world economic summit? Why do we criticize Democratic leaders for not fighting than waffle when someone does stand up?
The books of history are filled with teams that never should have won but did and of leaders who shouldn't have been victorious but were. Long forgotten among those very same pages are lost the names of those who threw up their hands and said 'oh well, we don"t have the votes." And on
a personal note, Senator Durbin, John Kerry can count with the best of them - what he seems incapabale of doing is quitting.
As my favorite football coach and many others are fond of saying:
Quitters never win, and winners never quit.
