I have mixed feelings about this diary.
On the one hand, the optimist in me would like for the Republicans to nominate their next "Bob Dole," someone with an impressive resume' but such a hard-right-wing asshole the American people will recoil come Election Day.
On the other hand, the cynic in me believes we need to get out front with all of the Republican "stealth" candidates (McCain, Giuliani, etc) because the RWCM will not only not do the job for us, they will, in fact, work to perpetuate the fraud.
I'm a bit older than most in here, so the John McCain I have "known" is not the same John McCain the RWCM is trying to sell me. Allow me to remind you about the asshole I knew of while I was in Southern California and "close to" the Savings and Loan scandal (a CPA of theirs, by way of introduction).
There are two main lines of attack on the mind-numbing notion John McCain has the standing to criticize anyone on the issue of integrity (much less Barack Obama):
- McCain in his professional life has been a crook, trading favors for the campaign contributions of Charles Keating. Keating remains one of the biggest crooks in US history, single-handedly defrauding the taxpayers of over $3 Billion (with a "B"). McCain also is proud to be close friends with murderous gangsters.
- McCain in his personal life has been a piece of shit. A ruthless serial adulterer, McCain divorced his first wife after she became disabled to marry into money.
Mind you, I am a big fan of redemption. It remains conceivable to me that a crooked and decrepid piece of shit like John McCain could reform himself. But, today, having read McCain's manic response to Senator Obama, I now believe redemption did not happen for Senator McCain.
