Shoes humiliated to one's feet are like servants that hold you with contempt.
Soon their smiling creases crack with hate, so that you must retire them to the bottom of the closet.
The closet if full of political unrest. Things turn against us as the poor against the rich.
What we took for granted never took us so.
Men are not kind, nor were they meant to be. Their hands are jaws, finger toothed.
All is a sentient pyramid.
The shoes wait to march. They wait to storm the citadel. They wait, and they shall always wait, for without feet they cannot march.
Journey for an Old Fellow
Can the old fellow get out of the kitchen? It is an arduous journey which will take him through those remarkable conversations of the dining room; and through the living room, where murder is so common that to even notice it proves one the amateur...Then the hallway and the stairs to the upstairs of dark bedrooms where boats rock at their moorings...Out through the walls grown translucent with moonlight, into a marble world of sheep grazing on the hills of the night...
