Our trusty UN Ambassador,
John Bolton, is now comparing Iran to the 9/11 attacks, in the administration's push for a new war.
"Just like Sept. 11, only with nuclear weapons this time, that's the threat. I think that is the threat," Bolton told ABC News' Nightline. "I think it's just facing reality. It's not a happy reality, but it's reality and if you don't deal with it, it will become even more unpleasant."
Leaving aside the total effrontery of comparing a possibility to an actual attack, once again we see the shameless use of 9/11 to justify an unwarranted action.
I am firmly of the belief that sometime this year, Bush will bomb Iran, mostly as a ruse to divert attention from his disasterous policies elsewhere. After all, it worked with Iraq, didn't it? We can't criticize our president in a time of war, right?
The thing is, Bush doesn't need Congressional approval to bomb Iran, he can do so under the War Powers Act. And if Iran retaliates, so be it. The deed will be already be done.
Although the administration, via Rumsfeld
Rumsfeld said that there was evidence, which he did not specify, that Revolutionary Guard troops "have been and/or are in Iraq," and that it would be reasonable to suggest Iran's government was responsible
is also making claims that Iran is influencing attacks in Iraq, that claim has been laid false by General Peter Pace
I know there are a lot of naysayers out there who don't believe this administration would pull the same trick twice, but I disagree.
After all, he has nothing left to lose, with those poll numbers.
