TUCSON- "I sign this as an American and a patriot," said Congressional Candidate Jeff Latas (CD-8) as he signed sign on as a citizen co-sponsor ofWisconsin Senator Russ Feingold's resolution to censure President George Bush.
Senator Feingold's motion seeks to censure President Bush on his use of warrantless wiretaps. Lieutenant Colonel Latas, USAF-Ret., said that by signing the petition he stands to make the president responsible for his actions in office. "While some think this is just political bravado, it is a clear message to those in the White House that we the people are fed up with our freedom being trampled upon," Latas said.
"I fought for freedom, my son fought for freedom, and it's time we start defending our freedom." Lt. Col. Latas served over twenty years as an officer in the Air Force as a fighter pilot and Pentagon analyst. Latas' son Jesse recently returned from Iraq after a relapse of childhood leukemia.
Latas declared his candidacy two weeks before Congressman Jim Kolbe decided to not seek reelection in 2006.
I think we need to back this strong and principled candidate.
