I've had enough. I may be shouting to the wind but this is what I sent Harry Reid:
Dear Senator Reid
Although I am not a constituent I am an active Democrat and since you are leader of the Senate minority, I feel compelled to write to you.
Senator Feingold has, as you are well aware, introduced a motion to censure President Bush for willfully breaking the law in the conduct of domestic wiretapping by the NSA. I must say that I am dismayed at the reaction of the Senators of my party.
There can be no doubt that refusing to seek warrants, as required by FISA, is an act clearly in contravention of the law. To argue that the President's Article II powers under wartime supersede FISA is saying that the president, under the guise of an endless undeclared war, can ignore any law that Congress has passed. I am not opposed to using wiretapping to fight Al Queda, but we are a nation that cherishes rule of law. Many Americans died fighting to protect rule of law under the Constitution. Is the Senate and the Congress willing to let the President ignore the law because it may be politically risky?
The Democrats of the Senate are running scared from Feingold's resolution. Why? To support it is standing up for what is right. President Bush is at 33% approval. The recent Pew poll states that the most common words respondents associate with him are "incompetent" "idiot" and "liar". The American people are ahead of you on this, Senator. You are the leader of the opposition party in the Senate, so oppose!
