There has been much blogging in the past about how the democratic party needs a message. However some recent events have made me think that the reason why we have that problem is because we tend to respond to Republican weaknessen and stop talking about our strengths.
Take censure for example. To be honest I just don't care about it. I'd rather be talking about universal healthcare because that will help people.
And quite frankly with an approval rating at 33% we can't make Bush more of a lame duck. So I am going to stop talking about Bush.
Instead I am going to talk about how I think vibrant netroots such as dailykos will help prevent democrats from simply being as corrupt as the Republicans when democrats get in power. And how I think that they will also help democrats implement their vision instead of putting it on the backburner.
And I am not going to spend this post talking about how we need vision either. Because you don't get vision talking about how you need it. I think that I'd rather talk about the supercomputer modeling the virus and how it is a great example of government working properly and a great use of government funding.
I don't mind talking about how my belief in god leads me toward the democratic party. I think that for example if I didn't believe in god I probably wouldn't care as much about enviromentalism.
I like talking about the strengths and weaknesses of economics and why I think that free trade is what is needed to help developing countries. And that if we implement it we will need to help our own workers with things like universal healthcare because free trade only helps overall and it is the governments job to ensure that the benifits of free trade aren't concentrated among the rich.
I personally am a great believer in open source things and that current copyright laws did not consider the idea that it would ever be so easy to reproduce digital things.
But most of all I like talking about the issues and for the most part I don't care about Republican opinions on them. So I would invite people to argue about the issues they care about here.
