Kant and other bloggers are onto something big. This may be as sure a way as any to convince people to vote for Democrats in 2006. It's an effective strategy because it is simple and easily understood.
Kant has posted ten points that I'll use as a "10 Point Plan". I'm gonna print it out and carry around in my pocket until the 2006 elections are over.
Just yesterday a GOP voter friend of mine said he was "disgusted" with the way the country is going. He blamed the government's failures on partisan bickering.
This is a guy with a big "W" sticker on his car. He knows and openly admits that things are horribly screwed up. His rationalization is that it's the "partisanship" in DC that is at fault. He's dead wrong - but he's open to suggestion. And he's representative of MILLIONS of disgruntled GOP voters.
All we have to do is remind voters, again and again, that the GOP is in charge. The GOP owns the government. They have made every single decision for the last 5 years. Every disaster is the GOP's fault.
And there have been so MANY disasters, all in plain sight, impossible to ignore.
We have to make sure that our Republican friends and neighbors remember that the GOP has been at the root of all these fuck-ups. It's NOT just Bush's fault. The whole GOP apparatus is geared to produce results like this.
What's going wrong in Washington is NOT caused by "partisan bickering" or a "stupid Congress that won't do what the president wants". What's wrong in Congress is that the GOP has been able to do EXACTLY what it wants, for 5 years. And those incompetent corrupt fools have truly screwed the country up with their nut-job ideas.
Remind your Republican friends that the Democrats are NOT calling the shots - the GOP is in charge. And then ask them if they want to defend the GOP. Use Kant's 10 points, (repeated shamelessly here because they're so dad-gum spot on):
If they want to defend illegal wiretapping, let them.
If they want to defend leaking CIA agent's identities, let them.
If they want to defend the lies that led us to a 1-2 trillion dollar war, let them.
If they want to defend 2318 U.S. deaths, 17,000+ wounded, let them.
If they want to defend Abu Grahaib and Guantanamo, let them.
If they want to defend Katrina, let them.
If they want to defend a 9 trillion dollar debt, let them.
If they want to defend trying to privatize social security, let them.
If they want to defend tax cuts for the rich, let them.
If they want to defend a moronic medicare drug program, let them.
If they say they don't want to defend all these catastrophes, tell them it's time to give the Democrats a chance.
As Kant correctly noted, even though Feingold's censure resolution targets Bush's illegal warrantless spying program, its easy to tie the "censure" idea into a referendum on the whole GOP machine.
Bush is at 37% for Christ's sake. The GOP has defined itself through Bush for the past 6 years. Don't let them weasel away from him now!
They're sinking. It's high time we throw them the freaking anvil.
IF YOU WANT TO CENSURE THE GOP FOR THE JOB THE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE, VOTE DEMOCRATIC IN 2006!
