Pardon me if this has been covered, but Drudge is blaring the headline, "
WE WILL DEFEND ISRAEL" with Bush's lovely (err..) chops in super-size (no flashing light, though), and I've done a search, and come up blank.
Anyway, what do we think of this?
There is nothing more volatile than the Israel-Palestinian conflict. I have to ask, now that Iran seems to be pushing its agenda to abolish Israel, what is the solution?
If it were possible to manipulate the circumstances, what would be the best solution for this conflict? I am so ignorant about this conflict, yet, more and more, it seems like the most powerful force on earth at the moment....
There's this point of view:
Palestinians (whose forebears have continuously lived in the Holy Land for 2 millennia) have the same right to a decent life and national identity as the Israelis (whose forebears mostly colonized a foreign-occupied Palestine in the 20th century). However 5 generations of Palestinians have been denied these fundamental rights over the last 6 decades. Indeed the continuing, forcible subjugation and dispossession of the citizens of the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the Golan Heights since 1967 violates international law, numerous UN Resolutions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Conventions.
or, the one more familiar to most of us:
Sen. Evan Bayh received a standing ovation from thousands of members of an influential pro-Israel group Monday night when he said that the militant Palestinian group Hamas should not receive a penny of support from the United States until it recognizes Israel's right to exist and renounces terror.
It seems to have started with the British Mandate of Palestine and just gone downhill from there. I am so curious as to why Kossacks don't discuss this more, why the Democratic position is rarely mentioned, and why we are not taught more about this conflict in our educational process...
My family never once mentioned this conflict growing up. I do not remember it being covered in my education, and I graduated with a straight 4.0 (though history was not a strong suit). I first learned of it through a fellow student in college. From him, I "learned" that the Palestinians are a "myth", that the conflict with Israel should end, because they were given that land, "by the Bible".
Wow. Then I started reading DailyKos, and I get more and more curious every day as to the truth. What is the truth for you?
I have to apologize in advance if anyone thinks the poll questions are inappropriate. Like I said, I am quite ignorant about this subject, and would like to learn more.
