As my first diary I'll do a DKos version of the NPR version of the Edward R Murrow show. Just so you can get to know who I am.
And to be polite I'll put it below the fold.
I believe we all, every one of us, every day, stand on the shoulders of giants. Some of those giants are mentors that we can see and know, some are so large that we don't even realize they are supporting us. When we seem to be alone we only need to stop and look around and see that what we thought was only dirt is in fact the shoulder of a giant.
I believe some day we all will be giants.
I believe that no matter how dark the politics of the world is today that humanity is slowly waking up and becoming something better. I may not see the results in my lifetime, but they will come.
I believe that people of good conscience must stand firm against injustice. We do not always need to shout, but if the time comes to do so we must. And when justice is served we must stand back. Liberty and justice are the goals, simple winning is not.
I believe that hope is more powerful than fear. What have progressives done wrong recently? We have let Republicans spread fear without countering it with hope. Hope does not have to be shouted, but it must be spoken.
I believe that liberty, freedom, is something you affirm every day. That freedom is a war of small decisions as much as large ones. That there are times when we have to decide to let a small freedom go for a short while to protect a larger freedom, but we must never forget to go back and pick up any freedom we have left by the side of path. That freedom is a responsibilty, one that is worth taking up. That freedom for others means as much as freedom for ourselvs. That helping others even in small ways helps keep us all free.
