Today's editorial, entitled
Assessing Mr. Lieberman explains the Post's position.
Now I will assess what this says about the Post.
Anyone who's follows The Washington Post's editorials is bound to have noticed their increasingly uncertain nature. It is as if The Post editorial staff cannot even form an opinion about forming an opinion. Recent editorials are a far cry from the hard-hitting pieces The Post was known for in the past. Next to Tom Toles' easily comprehended, highly opinionated, progressive-agenda-pushing political cartoons, The Post's editorials appear slipshod, timorous, and often downright lacking in an opinion.
This makes Lieberman the ideal endorsement for this newpaper. Both are wishy-washy. Neither have the punch that they once did. In effect, both have become milquetoast-ly liberal or reluctantly conservative.
I'm not surprised, but I am saddened that The Post has thrown itself behind a candidate whose campaign has become less and less relevant. One must wonder if TNR performed a body-snatch on The Post.
