For anybody who has had to drive in Texas, you'll know that its highway system is a mess. The Texas Department of Transportation(TxDOT) has a
plan(.pdf).
What they don't tell you is that it in order for it to work big brother will always be watching.
More below the fold.
The
plan (which takes 2 pages to say nothing) involves placing transponders in every car in Texas and readers on every mile of highway and interstate.
Yes, the state of Texas will become one giant EZPass, supplementing gas taxes. A realtime total vehicle information network will be established to pay for new highways and better infrastructure. Just don't break the transponder, it's a $15,000 fine.
It just also helps to know where you are every waking moment.
The scheme has already been contracted out with a firm in Arizona handling parts of system development. I was talking with a fella who happens to be working on the project and gave me the inside skinny.
When this gets out(TxDOT hopes after the election) they'll first claim that it's being developed to help "the children" by being able to track down vehicles during amber alerts.
Between this and Texas ABC arresting people before getting behind the wheel, it's looking less like a nanny state and more like a police state.
