As part of his work with the pro-military nonprofit "Move America Forward", Howard Kaloogian, Republican candidate for CA-50's congressional seat, just completed a ten day visit to Iraq, and he wants us to know that:
"Iraq (including Baghdad) is much more calm and stable than what many people believe it to be. But, each day the news media finds any violence occurring in the country and screams and shouts about it - in part because many journalists are opposed to the U.S. effort to fight terrorism."
Kaloogian would have us believe that Iraq and Baghdad are calm and stable and that we should be suspicious of the media "scream"ing about the gross atrocities occuring there...why, then, praytell, does he support our continued occupation of that country?
more about this dangerous candidate, under the fold
On his campaign website, Kaloogian describes himself as "a strong supporter" of the U.S. mission in Iraq! Even for a Republican, I'm surprised to see him espouse this extremely unpopular position just prior to an election for a congressional seat. Needless to say, Francine Busby (D, candidate for CA-50) has been against the war in Iraq since its onset and has promised to work for troop withdrawals, if elected.
Among other accomplishments, Kaloogian's nonprofit (from his website) has:
"Move America Forward was the leading organization to publicly speak out against Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 - exposing it as an Anti-American propaganda piece filled with countless inaccuracies and misrepresentations.
Exposed the partnership between Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" distribution companies and the terrorist group, Hezbollah, which worked to help make sure the Anti-American film was seen throughout the Middle East."
Glad to hear that Kaloogian is spending his time on such important matters as exposing Michael Moore's non-existent connections to Hezbollah!
When Kaloogian doesn't have his undershorts in a bunch over Michael Moore, he keeps himself busy by berating the mothers of Iraq war casualties:
"Move America Forward launched the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" Tour - with military families caravaning from California to President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. Our message was clear: Cindy Sheehan and her anti-military rhetoric was NOT representative of military families and their supporters. We attracted a crowd of several thousand supporters. The media called it the largest pro-troop rally to counter Cindy Sheehan to date."
Don't forget to remind your friends in Southern California that the special election to replace convicted felon Duke Cunningham in the House of Representatives is April 11, 2006 (with a runoff on June 6, 2006 in the very likely event that no candidate receives 50% of the vote in April). Francine Busby is the netroots supported candidate in this race and the latest poll places her support in the April 11 election at above 36%, three times her closest opponent, but not enough to avoid a runoff. That poll used 54% Republican respondents, however, while the district is about 45% Republican, so it is obviously skewed against Busby.
