Just as a follow up to a
diary I wrote last week, I need to report that
the good guys won one.
Sure, it's just a local (Gainesville, FL) City Commission race, but this is where it starts. We're building the progressive bench here in north Florida, one player at a time.
This win is great news all around: the republican (in this "non-partisan" race) used classic Atwater/Rove tactics, including nasty push-polls and scare tactics (about topics that aren't even up for discussion). The republican was a previous city commissioner, so this wasn't his first time around, and he had great name recognition.
The winning Democrat kept her message clear and positive throughout the race, despite being out-spent, and refused to take the republican bait.
Maybe -- hopefully -- we're seeing Americans get fed-up with slimy republican politics. Or maybe this was just a case of a superior candidate taking control. Regardless, it's good news.
