CBS News has a new
poll out that shows the public's dislike of Bush carrying over to Republican candidates, especially if they've received Bush's endorsement.
(CBS) Continued dissatisfaction with President Bush and the Iraq war could spell trouble for Republicans in the fall congressional elections.
More than one-third of voters in a CBS News poll say they will think of their vote as a vote against Mr. Bush, while just 14 percent will think of it as a vote for him. Forty-five percent say their view of the president will not be a factor in how they vote.
I find this particularly amusing in light of a recent
RNC memo warning Republicans "not to distance themselves from Bush".
Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not.
The memo further states
President Bush drives our image and will do so until we have real national front-runners for the '08 nomination. Attacking the President is counter productive for all Republicans, not just the candidates launching the attacks. If he drops, we all drop.
So let's see if I got this right for the Rethugs...
A) Campaign with Bush = Bad things
B) Campaign as the anti-Bush = Bad things
As each day passes, I'm loving it...
The GOP joined at the hip with DeLay, with the Bush anvil chained to their necks.
