The minimum wage in this country hasn't been raised in 9 years and is currently $5.15 per hour. We need to raise it significantly in order to provide a high standard of living for all Americans.
At $5.15 per hour, working a full 40 hour work week, a worker will only make about $11,000 per year. That's not enough to live on. The average home in America costs about $200,000 now and the cost of nearly everything is going up. We should raise the minimum wage to a level that would allow working American's to make $40,000 per year. They still would have to pay 5 times their annual salary just to buy a house, but it would give them a chance to live the American dream. Tell your congressmen (and women) that $5.15 is not enough to live on, America can do better.
