In defending his choice of Fox News reporter Tony Snow as our country's new Press Secretary, despite Snow's withering comments in the past accusing President Bush of being, among other pejoratives, an "impotent" leader who is an "embarassment", Bush said today, and I
quote:
"For those of you who've read his columns and listened to his radio show, he sometimes has disagreed with me. I asked him about those comments, and he said, 'You should have heard what I said about the other guy.'"
Oh reaaaalllllllllllyyyyyy? Well CNN has been playing Bush's "joke" all morning. So. Let's take a closer look at this utter bullshit...
Okay, let's take a look at one of Snow's previous observations on Bush, via
Think Progress":
1. - Bush has "lost control of the federal budget and cannot resist the temptation to stop raiding the public fisc." [3/17/06]
OK. So what did Snow say about the "other guy" running our country now who lost control of the federal budget and raided the coffers? Um. Gee. Since Bush is the only guy in charge, there is no other guy, is there?
2. - "No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to defending presidential powers and prerogatives."
Harsh words! What did he say about the "other guy"? Well since "No president" has looked this impotent, that implies that he had nothing to say worse about the "other guy". Or Snow is lying, and he does think other presidents are more impotent. But then we aren't talking about Clinton - we're talking Bush's dad.
3.- "George W. Bush and his colleagues have become not merely the custodians of the largest government in the history of humankind, but also exponents of its vigorous expansion."
So who's the "other guy" who expanded our government to the largest in history, and what has Snow said even worse about his management?
It's all the same nonsense. Snow never said "You should have heard what I said about the other guy" to Bush. It does not make sense, nor is it true. Bush made it up to make himself look better.
