This from the
San Jose Mercury News:
Sen. Russ Feingold said Thursday he will introduce an amendment to a spending bill requiring that U.S. troops leave Iraq by the end of the year.
As a follow up to his demand last year that we pull our troops out of Iraq by December of 2006, Russ is once again putting his money where his mouth is.
"Our country desperately needs a new vision for strengthening our national security, and it starts by redeploying U.S. forces from Iraq," Feingold, a potential presidential candidate, said in a statement.
More below the fold:
Russ is attaching this to an emergency spending measure of $106.5 billion going to resupplying our troops as well as for hurricane relief. The amendment will, in effect, require that our troops come home by December 31, 2006.
"Our country desperately needs a new vision for strengthening our national security, and it starts by redeploying U.S. forces from Iraq," Feingold, a potential presidential candidate, said in a statement.
Naturally the RNC launched a volley of criticism at the Senator's move:
"It's unfortunate that some Democrats would trade progress for partisanship to benefit their political ambitions," RNC spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said in a statement. "What our country doesn't need are Democrat leaders who promote a cut-and-run strategy in Iraq that hurts our ability to fight the war on terror."
Don't you find it very interesting that the RNC is now accusing him of using this issue to further his political agenda, when the GOP seemed fine with attaching a measure to drill the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge to an emergency spending bill last year--all to serve their own political interests and that of the oil companies?
With all do respect Tracey, your gang of incompetent blowhards have had five years to sure up your foreign policy agenda, and look where it's gotten us. The GOP and this Administration simply cannot fight the war on terror competently--and we have mountains of evidence to back this up. Your party has failed. Now step aside while big boys like Russ, John Murtha, John Kerry and dissenting retired generals steer this country back on course.
Contact your Senator and let them know that you support Russ' amendment and that they should too.
