Former St. Louis Cardinal
Ray Lankford was the master at hitting meaningless home runs, i.e., he was great when the Cardinals were leading by seven runs or trailing by nine. I keep thinking about Ray-Ray when I hear Jim Talent "talking tough" on issues that few people dispute.
Recent examples include Talent's push for increased use of ethanol in fuel and for increasing funding for an FBI "cold case" unit. Wow, Jimbo, way to go out on a limb.
I mean really, how many constituents of Mr. Talent are against decreasing our dependence on foreign oil. And I haven't seen too many people protesting outside Talent's campaign headquarters after announcing his groundbreaking support for helping the FBI close old criminal files.
Let's see Jim stand up for something hard, like bucking Bush on the recent tax breaks to the wealthy at the expense of students and seniors. That would have been something truly visionary and right for the people of Missouri. Its not like Talent even cast the deciding vote. As a candidate, he could have broken with Bush (for once) and done something right.
But no, we are stuck with Senator Ray-Ray, at least until November.
(By the way, I like Ray Lankford. No offense meant, at least to him).
