Where's the music?
When I remember the sixties and seventies (yes, I am that old) every event is accompanied by a sound track in my head. They sound corny and dated now, all those old folkies, but they expressed what we felt and their songs were anthemic and totemic.
Where is the music now? Maybe I just don't hear it because I no longer know what to listen for- if so, please relieve my ignorance, but apart from Neil Young (how ironic) which singers try express the frustration and angst of the Bush years? Where is our anti-war music?
Whenever I go to a protest or anti-war rally, I hear music that is 30 years old, and while it often is perfectly applicable to the current situation, it lacks the immediacy and the feeling "This was written for us, for what we are feeling, right now".
What do you think?
