I just finished reading
Peter Pan's diary on the NPR laughing at the dying polar bear shown in Al Gore's movie.
And I just finished taking the poll.
It hurt me alot to do it, but I voted for the first option:
Why aren't the Democrats doing enough on global warming?
The Democrats are corrupted by money earned by destroying the earth.
What lies below the fold began as a short reflection on that option, and what it means for me and maybe for us.
Some of you may disagree, and I
do know that
not all Dems are corporate property, but not enough to make a difference it appears.
How much more are we going to take, people?
How much longer are we going to sit at our computers here in the echo chamber, clinging to each other in fear and loathing?
How much longer can we bear to our have our ideals torn to shreds and desecrated by the very same forces that made us learn them in school to begin with?
Were they really just lies?
Truth?
Justice?
The American way?
Has it all led to this?
Are we that polar bear? Is that bear a metaphor? What does its whiteness signify? The purity of our ideals? Now adrift with no ice to cling to? Ready to drown?
If so, then it's only fitting that the dream of democracy should die to the laughter of those in whom Jefferson placed the most faith for preserving democracy. The "free" press.
The press, free or not, allowed truth to die. Serious truth, it seemed to them, did not pay. It dried up advertising revenues collected from the real customers. And you know what they always say, "We're just giving our customers what they want."
Well, the customers are plenty happy now. Heck of a job, pretty boys and pretty girls!
Justice?
Oh yeah, that's justice. The only justice we deserve. We did get lazy. We let the media lull us to sleep a long, long time ago. Some of us won't ever wake up.
This isn't about Democracts or Republicans! It's about us and our complacency.
Just look at us! Sitting in here in the echo chamber, still praying still pretending that Democrats will ever stand up for us, for democracy, for human rights, the environment, for the polar bears, or for anything that would fucking piss off the corporatate donors that fund their goddamn campaigns and the fucking media run by those same corporations that will tell Joe and Jane McSixpack how to vote anyway.
And I'm not saying this because I think I've got truth locked down by the short and curlies while the rest of you are in the dark. I've been hunkered down here in the dark with the rest of you. So, please, please fellow kossacks, don't take this as just of bunch of self-righteous crap, because everything that I've said so far has been couched in terms of "we."
I just want to know.
How much more?
How much more are we going to take from "them" - the plutocrats and their media minions and their political pimps - before we take our country back?
Do we dare wait for November? Do you trust November? Even if the Dems win landslide after landslide, do you trust November? I'm not sure. I'm agnostic, I guess, on that one? Do we trust 2008? What's going to change? Back to business as usual? Was business as usual ever good enough for us? Will we be content with that, even if it's allow to happen? Didn't that business lead to this business?
How much more? What do we do? What do we want? How much do we want it? How much are we willing to risk to get it?
We're getting down to some pretty existential questions here folks. Not one of us will be able to answer them alone.
