A blurb from the arch-conservative
Sher Zieve:
In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld said: "We're not going to win against the insurgency. The Iraqi people are going to win against the insurgency. That insurgency could go on for any number of years. Insurgencies tend to go on five, six, eight, 10, 12 years. Coalition forces, foreign forces are not going to repress that insurgency." Rumsfeld also went on to say that it is the intent and the job of coalition forces to "create an environment" in which the Iraqis can defeat the terrorists who continue to threaten its burgeoning democracy.
Rumsfeld also said that it could take up to 12 years to complete the suppression and defeat of the terrorists. But, he added that it would be the ultimate task of the Iraqis, and not the US or alliance forces, to complete the job.
WTF? Was our intent just to set up experiment that we will try to guide indirectly?
