If you'll forgive me the self-indulgence of all this, it seemed easier than answering individual emails asking where I went. Hopefully I've got enough mojo built up that this won't degenerate into a recipe-fest. Especially since I can't cook for shit.
You see, I've taken a job with the DLC. I'll be their internet consultant, doing blog outreach to convince you damn lefties that centrism really is the way to go. Blogging has provided a lot of people with wonderful opportunities, and when Al From dropped me an email last week, I just couldn't resist...
No, I'm just kidding. The thing is, I need a break. Badly. I've got some pretty significant changes coming up in my life (recent college graduate, law school etc.), and I'm finding myself feeling more and more frayed. So, as much as I've enjoyed being a part of this community, I need some time off.
More on the flip...
In the year I've been here (God, has it really been that long already?), I've learned a lot, "met" some really amazing people, and engaged in a lot of really good discussion. Daily Kos has become a fairly major part in my life. Whether that's a sign of the strength of this community and this format, or just a sign that I have entirely too much time on my hands it up to you to decide.
But lately, I find myself agreeing less and less, and stirring the pot more and more. Consciously or not, I feel like I've been engaging in a lot of pointless little arguments lately, and it doesn't serve any purpose for either me or the site. So I'm going to walk away. I don't know how long it will be for. For all I know, I'll be back next week (although that would be particularly embarassing). I'm sure I'll still lurk here from time to time, especially on primary days and elections nights, but I gotta stop commenting and writing for a while.
I'm kind of sad that I'll be checking out right before the stuff I really find interesting starts ramping up. I love elections. It's a strange passion, but it's true. And not being able to talk about them with a bunch of other wonks is going to be tough,. I don't know where else I'm going to find people who not only know who Tammy Duckworth is, but also know her favorable/unfavorable ratings, her cash on hand, and the endorsements she's recieved. Dkos is a wonderful resource for all things dorky and political.
So I'll talk to y'all later. And keep a few things in mind while I'm gone. The Republicans are the bad guys in this play, not the Democrats. Primaries are great, but we can't let bad blood carry over into the general, especially in an election this important and ripe for the picking. The Pistons are going to beat the crap out of whoever they play this year. And lastly, you all wish you went to the University of Michigan. </sermon>
Peace out, and sorry for giving you all one last look at my navel.
