MTP details
A big week in Iraq: How will the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi affect the war and the U.S. effort to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people? And will the insurgents' struggle to fill the leadership vacuum created by al-Zarqawi's death lead to more violence? We will ask the Commanding General of the Multi-National Force in Iraq, Gen. George Casey, on this Sunday's "Meet the Press with Tim Russert."
Then, we turn to politics to interview the man with one of the world's most widely read political weblogs, Markos Moulitsas, the founder and editor of DailyKos.com. He is hosting the first "YearlyKos" convention this weekend in Las Vegas where key Democrats such as Senator Minority Leader Harry Reid, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and DNC Chair Howard Dean will be speaking.
He will be joined on the "Meet the Press Roundtable" by Newsweek Magazine's Jonathan Alter, The Cook Political Report's Amy Walter, and the National Review's Byron York. They'll share their insights and analysis on the week in politics & primaries, and on the upcoming elections.

When a state party has Pataki and Pirro, it's no wonder that NY Republicans are a constant source of humor.
State Sen. Thomas P. Morahan, a Republican from Rockland County, caused some nervous laughter at the GOP state convention in Hempstead when he alluded to the sexual prowess of lieutenant governor candidate C. Scott Vanderhoef, the Rockland County executive since 1994.
"He's the father of twins and triplets. He's a man of action. No wasted motion there," Morahan said in a nomination speech.
When Vanderhoef finally got to the microphone, he thanked Morahan for the kind words and then quickly said, "I'm really glad he didn't go into more detail about the triplets and the twins."

What is at stake in November (besides subpoena power): the sanctity of Social Security. DCCC folks must be positively orgasmic over the McCrery quote. Is there video? link
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) blasted Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.) yesterday after he told a gathering of business lobbyists and reporters that the House should act on Social Security reform early next year.
"When the House Republican point man on Social Security says that privatizing Social Security will be a top priority next year, it is clear the Republicans once again are not listening to the American people, who resoundingly rejected this risky scheme last year," Pelosi said in a statement issued hours after McCrery's appearance at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
What's at stake in November (part 2)... a Congress that might actually be productive for once. Harry Reid: (HT Americablog)
So for me it is clear the reason for this [gay marriage ban] debate is to divide our society, to pit one against another. This is another one of the President's efforts to frighten, to distort, to distract, and to confuse America. It is this Administration's way of avoiding the tough, real problems that American citizens are confronted with each and every day:
High Gas Prices.
The War in Iraq.
The National Debt.
Health Care.
Senior Citizens.
Education.
Crime.
Trade Policy.
Stem Cell Research.
Each issue begging the President's attention, each issue being ignored -- valuable time in the Senate spent on an issue that today is without hope of passing.
